Volunteer with Scouts

Everyone has commitments elsewhere in their life and it’s understandable that you may not feel the ability to commit each week, or a full leader role seem daunting. However any amount of time you can spare will make all the difference to young people in Bradway.

All sections have to adhere to specific rules on adult to child ratios, particularly for any more adventurous activities. If we don’t get enough support it severely limits the activities that each of the sections can do, and in the worse scenario will mean that sections cease to function.

If you’re interested in supporting in any capacity please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Roles

Section Leaders and Section Members (these are the ones in uniforms)

If we don’t have at least one section member or leader per evening the night can not go ahead.

Section Teams make sure:

  • We’re planning and delivering a great programme
  • There’s a great culture for volunteers and members
  • Scouts is a safe environment for everyone
  • Admin gets done, such as keeping member records
  • Everyone’s kept in the loop

Occasional Helpers

This role is possibly the most flexible but they are instrumental in ensuring the safe running of each section. They help improve adult : child ratios to allow more adventurous activities to take place. This could be supporting a camp, a hike, or supporting a cooking night for cubs. You could even attend more regularly.

Trustee Board

Trustee Boards make sure:

  • Teams follow policies and legislation
  • Scouts operates safely and legally
  • Volunteers have the resources to get things done
  • We’re planning and thinking for the long term
  • Money, risks, and buildings are managed well

Other Roles

If you would like to support Bradway scouts but are looking for a different role there are plenty of other options…

  • Quartermaster – Looking after all the kit that beavers, cubs and scouts use, ensuring its ready for any adventure
  • DBS Checker – Ensuring that all volunteers have been vetted.
  • Digital Support – Maintaining websites, supporting coherent communication with parents and maintaining records across all sections.
  • Badge Secretary – Keeping and eye on badge progress across sections and ordering where necessary, reducing burden on the section teams.
